Student Stories and Outcomes

Real student journeys, carefully planned.

Every family comes to us with a different question. Some need help choosing a school. Some need university strategy. Others need academic preparation, mentoring or support explaining a non-traditional education route.

What these stories show

The right support depends on the student, the family and the route ahead.

We work with globally mobile families, students entering UK schools from overseas, home-educated and world-schooled learners, students applying to university, young athletes, actors and children whose education journey does not fit neatly into one standard path.

These stories have been adapted from our work across school placement, university applications, academic preparation, interview support, residential tuition and mentoring. Some details have been kept general to protect family privacy.

Our students have been supported towards:

  • UK school entry
  • UK boarding school applications
  • School interview preparation
  • University applications
  • US university ambitions
  • Academic confidence and transition
  • Non-traditional education pathways

Outcomes and destinations

Supporting students towards leading schools, universities and future pathways.

Top School and Uni has supported students applying to schools and universities including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial College, Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Wycombe Abbey and Cheltenham Ladies’ College.

International school placement

Helping families move between countries, schools and systems.

International families often need more than a list of schools. They need academic preparation, application guidance and support understanding what UK schools are really looking for.

Turkey to UK schools

From schooling in Turkey to UK school places

Two brothers, aged 10 and 7, had been schooled in Turkey when their parents decided to move them permanently into the UK education system. The family needed residential academic support over the summer, as well as guidance through the admissions process.

We sourced a tutor to work with the boys intensively, and the support continued online once they returned to Turkey. Alongside academic preparation, the family received admissions support because English was not their first language.

Outcome: The boys gained places at UK schools, with ongoing mentoring to help them settle into their new environment.

USA to UK school

From the USA to a top UK girls’ school

A student based in the USA needed support with school selection and preparation for entry into a leading UK girls’ school. The student was in a liberal arts school in California but was wanting a more rigorous academic challenge in the UK.

We toured over 10 schools before deciding on a shortlist. The student was then placed with a tutor to prepare her for the school entrance exams

After the student was accepted into a top UK girls’ school, the family asked for ongoing academic support after school and during the holidays.

Outcome: The student moved successfully into the UK school system, with continued academic support around the transition.

China to UK boarding

Preparing students in China for UK boarding school applications

A family based in China approached us when they decided to apply for UK boarding schools for their two children, aged 9 and 11. The students needed preparation for entrance exams and support understanding the expectations of UK school admissions.

This is a strong example of how international families often need more than a school list: they need a joined-up plan covering academic readiness, application requirements and the move into a different education system.

Outcome: The family received structured academic and admissions support for UK boarding school applications.

Applications and interview preparation

Helping students prepare, speak clearly and show their potential.

Academic assessment

Using assessment to decide whether a school move was right

One family came to us unsure of their daughter’s true academic ability. Her school reports were positive, but her parents were struggling to judge whether she would be a strong fit for a school move.

We assessed her using a school entrance-style assessment, then used the results to discuss possible schools and next steps. The student then worked with a specialist tutor to prepare a competitive application.

Outcome: The family gained clarity on school fit and preparation needs before making a decision.

School interview

Building confidence before a competitive school interview

A student preparing for her City of London Girls interview took a mock interview with our Director. She was concerned about what to say in interview as she had not attended a prep school beforehand and was not involved in a high level or sports or music.

The session helped her practise answering questions clearly, speaking about her interests and approaching the interview with more confidence.

Outcome: The student passed the interview and moved forward successfully.

London schools

Preparing for competitive 6th form boarding

A student came to us looking to apply to a competitive school for 6th form. She had previously applied to the school at the age of 13 and had been rejected. We worked with her to prepare a statement explaining her reasoning for wanting to enter the school. She was home educated, due to sporting commitments and so her application centred on how the school would offer her a balance for her chosen sport and studies.

After she was accepted, the family wanted support with academic preparation for iGCSE’s to ensure that the student had the best academic start.

Outcome: The students entered her chosen school, confident in her choice and how it could support her.

University and future pathways

Academic preparation that supports the wider university plan.

US university ambitions

Strengthening A-level Biology for a US university application

A 17-year-old student at a top UK boarding school needed to improve her predicted grades in Biology in order to apply to a prestigious US university. After negative experiences with other tuition agencies, the family approached us for intensive support.

We provided a short-term summer tutor at the family home in Switzerland, helping the student grow in confidence and strengthen her academic profile. The work was so successful that the tutor returned the following Easter to support final A-level revision.

Outcome: The student strengthened her academic profile and confidence for future university applications.

London enrichment

A London week combining interview preparation and enrichment

A 12-year-old student visiting London for one week while her parents had business meetings needed to prepare for upcoming secondary school interviews, but also wanted to make the most of her time in the city.

We designed a bespoke timetable, with interview skills in the morning and carefully chosen afternoon activities that developed her interests and supported her studies in the USA.

Outcome: She returned to school with new knowledge and gained extra credit for her holiday work.

Dubai transition

Supporting a Dubai-based student through GCSE disruption

A 17-year-old student had deferred her GCSEs because of processing difficulties and anxiety. Her school was not offering the support she needed, so her family approached us for longer-term academic help.

We supported her throughout the year and travelled to the family home in Dubai during vacations to provide more intensive tuition. She passed her GCSEs and moved on to A levels in a more supportive school.

Outcome: The student passed her GCSEs and moved forward into a more suitable sixth form environment.

Non-traditional student journeys

Support for students whose lives do not revolve around a standard timetable.

Actor and flexible education

Supporting a child actor through filming and reintegration into school

A 14-year-old child actor was entering three years of filming in Canada when his family contacted us at short notice. Because we were already supporting an older sibling, the family trusted us to provide flexible academic help around the filming schedule.

Our tutors provided revision support, mentoring and ad hoc tuition to help him stay on track. He has since reintegrated back into school and is thriving.

Outcome: Flexible academic and mentoring support helped the student maintain progress around professional commitments.

Complex family life

Flexible academic support around family commitments

A 15-year-old student was struggling to balance family duties with upcoming GCSEs, and the family was only alerted to his grades six weeks before the exams. We provided discreet and flexible residential tuition while the student was removed from school.

The tutor helped him create a timetable around his other commitments, supported revision and filled gaps from school absence. He returned to school to sit his GCSEs and achieved all B grades.

Outcome: The student returned to school, sat his GCSEs and achieved a strong set of results despite a difficult period.

Privacy and discretion

Every family story is handled carefully.

Many of the families we support are navigating personal decisions, international moves, complex school situations, academic pressure or high-profile lives. We are careful about how we share student stories and do not include unnecessary identifying details.

These case studies are designed to show the type of support we provide, while respecting the privacy of the families involved.

Our approach is:

  • Personalised
  • Strategic
  • Discreet
  • Family-centred
  • Academically informed
  • Focused on the student’s next step
